Tongji successfully holds mid-term appraisal meeting for first-class discipline of “European Studies”
Hosted by the Office of Discipline Development and the School of Political Science & International Relations of Tongji University, the mid-term appraisal meeting for the first-class discipline of “European Studies” was successfully held in Conference Room C501 of the Sino-French Center on September 15, 2019. The expert group had a detailed appraisal for the discipline of “European Studies” at Tongji.
The expert group was headed by Prof. Xu Jun, a senior professor of liberal arts at Zhangjiang University, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program of MOE, and the convener of the Foreign Literature Discipline Appraisal Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. Members of the expert group included: Deng Anqing, a professor at the School of Philosophy of Fudan University, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program of MOE; Li Jianhua, a professor at the School of Marxism Studies of Zhejiang Normal University, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program of MOE, and a member of the Philosophy Discipline Appraisal Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; Liu Yu’an, a professor at the School of Political Science and Public Administration, Shandong University and a member of the Political Science Discipline Appraisal Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; Sun Xiaoxia, a professor at the Law School of Fudan University, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program of MOE, and a member of the Steering Committee for Law Teaching of MOE; Yu Zhenhua, a professor at the Department of Philosophy of East China Normal University, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program of MOE, and a member of the Philosophy Discipline Appraisal Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; and Zhou Guanghui, a professor at School of Public Administration of Jilin University, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program of MOE, and Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for Political Science Teaching of MOE.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Feng Shijin, Deputy Director of the Office of Discipline Development. Tongji Vice President Prof. Jiang Bo delivered a welcome speech and introduced the situation of the first-class discipline “European Studies” at Tongji. Then, Tongji Distinguished Professor Men Honghua, Dean of the Political Science & International Relations and President of the Institute for China & World Studies, Tongji University, reported the progress of “European Studies”, a part of Tongji’s Social Sciences discipline group; Prof. Zhao Qianfan, Associate Dean of the School of Humanities, reported the results of “European Studies” in the humanities sector.
The experts agreed that: Tongji University has clear guidelines and goals for the development of the first-class discipline “Europe Studies”. Through a sound development layout, and effective organization and implementation, it has achieved marked results and substantially realized the goals, serving as an example for engineering colleges and universities to develop humanities and social sciences. The mid-term self-evaluation work program is reasonable and the self-evaluation work is carefully organized. The expert group agreed on the success of mid-term appraisal on Tongji’s development of first-class discipline “Europe Studies”.
